The Omicron Delta Kappa Society seeks to elevate the discussion of leadership on college and university campuses through the OΔK Leadership Lecture Series. Each year select members of the Society will be chosen to serve as OΔK Distinguished Lecturers, and will lecture on a leadership topic at host institutions.
Goals:
- Enhance the visibility of Omicron Delta Kappa on their campuses and in their communities.
- Provide host campuses with Distinguished Lecturers who have earned national reputations in their fields.
- Encourage the development of effective leaders by providing opportunities for distinguished lecturers to share stories of personal and professional success through their lectures and small group discussions with OΔK Circle members; or by providing opportunities for distinguished scholars or authors to present their ideas about leadership to college audiences.
- Create an opportunity for host campuses to engage members of their communities to consider the role that leadership, ethics, integrity and honor might have in their lives.
- Support OΔK’s mission to recognize today’s campus leaders and prepare them for their future leadership roles.
Prospective host Circles will be asked to complete an application process. Circles should describe how receiving a Distinguished Lecturer might contribute to their campus’ overall commitment to leadership development. Circles are asked to recognize the importance of making the lecture a university-wide event. In addition to indicating a willingness to be flexible about which Distinguished Lecturer is “matched” to their campus, each host Circle will be responsible, in conjunction with OΔK National Headquarters, to meet these expectations:
- Assuring good attendance by gaining support of their President or Chancellor and other senior administrators in academic and student affairs.
- Committing Circle members to attend and help bring others to the lecture.
- Providing a convenient, central location for the lecture.
- Arranging a luncheon or other meeting for Circle members to meet in a small group setting with the distinguished lecturer.
- Arranging local transportation for the Distinguished Lecturer, as needed.
- Providing a student or staff member to assist the Distinguished Lecturer with his or her needs during their stay on campus.
- Facilitating the videotaping of the lecture, including assisting OΔK National Headquarters to secure the services of a qualified professional in the local area.
- Producing a publicity action plan, in conjunction with OΔK National Headquarters, that would ordinarily include the following items, as appropriate for a particular campus:
- Pre- and post-event press releases sent to local media outlets
- Paid advertisement(s) in the campus newspaper
- Radio and/or TV spots
- Brochure distributed through Circle members to key student and faculty members
- Post lecture communication, including photographs, given to local media outlets and campus newspapers, etc.
- An honorarium for the Distinguished Lecturer
- Airfare or other transportation
- Overnight accommodations and meals for the Distinguished Lecturer
- Professional videotaping of the lecture
- A Circle luncheon or other similar event
- Publicity
