Privacy Policy - We respect your privacy.
Omicron Delta Kappa
Society, Inc. is committed to protecting our members’ privacy. The
Society has created this privacy policy to protect the privacy of personal
information as well as the privacy of visitors using the Omicron Delta Kappa
website.
Omicron Delta Kappa (OΔKŪ) is a nonprofit (501-C-3) organization devoted to
recognizing and celebrating excellence in academic scholarship and leadership
since its founding at Washington and Lee University in 1914. There are over 300
active Circles (chapters) of OΔK throughout the United States each recognizing significant
contributions to campus life. Members of OΔK are eligible for local, regional, and national awards and
recognition, as well as scholarships and participation in educational and
leadership programs.
Membership is on a life long basis, so we ask for personal information that
facilitates communications beyond the college years. This statement of privacy
policy outlines the use and limits of that information for the benefit of each
member.
What information does Omicron Delta
Kappa collect?
When a prospective member agrees to membership, he or she provides contact
information through his or her membership form. This information includes
full name, permanent home address, telephone number, and email. We also
collect the birth date, OΔK initiation date, gender, and class standing at the time of
initiation. A member may voluntarily provide his or her social security
number, which is only used to assist in identification of individuals that
share the same name. If a member chooses to contribute to the Omicron
Delta Kappa Foundation or apply for a foundation scholarship or award,
additional information is collected.
How is my information used?
We collect, process, and use such information to perform the services we
offer, including the sending of newsletters and communications to officers and
other members. These processes include the preparation and production of
individual membership certificates, recognition of members for awards and
organizing our activities. We also select members to participate in
various programs sponsored by Omicron Delta Kappa and we collect certain
demographic information about delegates attending our National Convention.
Your information is used by others to whom we give information, as provided
below.
To whom is my information given?
We share your information with the Omicron Delta Kappa Foundation, Inc.,
which uses the information for its fundraising activities. We also share
certain limited personal contact information with our “participating
companies.” This currently includes one credit card company that provides
OΔK a royalty based
upon the cards it issues, special travel offers, mobile phone services, and car
rental opportunities. Each of these programs is entirely voluntary and
are meant only to create opportunities for everyday activities to reflect and
benefit Omicron Delta Kappa and our members.
- We do not sell our membership list.
- A member may request to have his or her name and contact information removed from any list provided to participating companies.
How is my information protected?
While we cannot
guarantee that loss, misuse, or alteration of data will not occur, we take
precautions to prevent such events. Your personal information is stored
in a secure operating environment not available to the public, except for the
limited information presented to our “participating companies” as referenced
above. We limit access of personal information to headquarters staff,
officers, directors, and a few other members of the Omicron Delta Kappa Society
and Foundation.
Can I opt out?
Omicron Delta Kappa Society allows members to inform us via written
communication what they do not wish to receive. Members who choose not to
receive any communications will remain in our database, but will not receive
further information from Omicron Delta Kappa or any participating company.
How do I update my information?
Omicron Delta Kappa allows you to update your information by emailing the
national headquarters, visiting the “Circle Resources” tab on the website, or
via US mail to the national office.
What if I have a question?
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, the practices of the
website, or your interaction with OΔK, please contact Tom Goodale (tomgoodale@odk.org),
