Numerous members have been star student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, and commissioners. They include household names such as Peyton Manning and Pat Summit. They also include Olympians Shannon Vreeland and Dawn Staley (who is also a NCAA National Championship Coach). The list of leaders in athletics also includes trailblazers such as Val Ackerman, the Big East Commissioner who was also the first woman to receive a full athletics scholarship at the University of Virginia.
