About the Circle
The Loyola University New Orleans Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) was founded on March 23, 2015. Membership recruitment for the Circle takes place in the spring semester of each academic year. To become a member, applicants must be of junior or senior credit standing and be in the top 35% of their class. Additionally, potential members must demonstrate leadership achievements in one of the five phases of campus life: athletics, campus or community service/social and religious activities/or campus government, creative and performing arts, journalism/speech/or mass media, and scholarship.
Applications are available on OrgSync each January and qualified members are invited to apply.
Membership is extended after a thorough review of applications and membership interviews. To remain in good standing with the Circle, each member must adhere to the following participation requirement:
• Must attend at least four Circle meetings a semester
• Meet with LEAD mentee(s) once a month and fill out the mentor/mentee log
• Attend one service event per year
• Pay $30.00 membership dues
Programs
Along with serving as a honorary society to recognize students who have gone above and beyond in the five major areas of campus life the Loyola University Circle directly works with the leadership themed living community for first year students. LEAD (Leadership Education And Development) is a live and learn residence hall community that provides interested first-year students with opportunities to learn more about leadership and how to be a leader in the Loyola community. ODK members serve as mentors to the students living on the floor and meet with them once a month to check-in and offer advice on balancing academics along with involvement opportunities. ODK members also attend floor programs once a month. Along with working with the LEAD community, ODK has been active in establishing Dance Marathon at Loyola. Dance Marathon will serve as the Circle’s primary service event and will be launching in the Spring of 2016.
