I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Colonel Thomas E. Hiebert to the ODK Society Board of Directors as an At-Large Member. The Board of Director’s formally appointed COL. Hiebert at the Board’s organizational meeting immediately following the conclusion of the National Convention in Charlotte, NC on July 28th. COL Hiebert currently serves as the Director of the Dean’s Staff at West Point, the United States Military Academy.
COL Hiebert was commissioned in the Infantry upon graduating from West Point in 1987. He received his Master of Military Art and Science from the United States Army Command and General Staff College in 2000, his PhD in Finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in July 2009, and his Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in July 2011.
COL Hiebert has served in a variety of leadership assignments all over the world throughout a twenty-five year career in the Army, leading Soldiers at every level from the platoon through the battalion task force. These assignments include two tours of duty along the Demilitarized Zone in the Republic of Korea, two tours of duty with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and a tour of duty with the United States Army Southern European Task Force in Vicenza, Italy. He also served as an Army Congressional Fellow in the office of Senator Jack Reed.
From June 2004 through May 2006, COL Hiebert commanded the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Shortly after assuming command, he led his 1000-man airborne infantry battalion task force on a short-notice contingency deployment in support of combat operations in Iraq. While deployed, he managed the employment of the task force in support of the first-ever Iraqi National Parliamentary Elections in January 2005, and ensured a safe voting environment for the residents of one of the most volatile areas of Baghdad.
Over the past three years, COL Hiebert directed the Management Program within the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at West Point. He has also served as the Faculty Secretary of the West Point Circle of ODK, and is the Officer-in-Charge of the Men’s Rugby Team.
