“My situation is a little unique, as I received the scholarship having already completed my undergraduate degree, a master’s degree, and a doctoral degree. I graduated in May of 2020 from Clemson University with a Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Communication, and Information Design. Currently, I am a Visiting Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Writing at Berry College in Mt. Berry, Georgia. I am also completing my MBA at Berry and plan to graduate in May of 2023. I applied for The Intern Group Scholarship due to my desire to begin a new career path in business. In addition, I have a lot of experience teaching, researching, working with different cultural groups, and traveling abroad. I was excited for the opportunity to begin the internship, so I could continue to learn relevant skills that will assist me as I make a transition away from academia. I am thankful for my time spent teaching, but I feel called to begin a different career path. Through The Intern Group, I was paired with Amorvita. Amorvita is a Toronto-based company that seeks to empower women entrepreneurs. As a Marketing and Communications Manager, I learned valuable skills that I will use in real-world contexts. For example, I created inclusive social media content and web page designs. I was also able to assist on the business development side. Damian Reid, the CEO of Amorvita, was amazing. He made sure I understood my tasks and was very supportive throughout the duration of the internship. Lastly, the rest of the intern team I worked with was fantastic. We were all based in different locations – the UK, France, China, and Canada but we made it work! I am so grateful to Damian, the rest of the Amorvita team, and The Intern Group for making my internship unforgettable. I now feel comfortable applying for new jobs to begin my new career!” -Whitney Jordan Adams (Clemson University, 2019) | The Intern Group Scholarship RecipientWhitney Jordan Adams
“I am a student, wife, and mother of three; I am jointly pursuing a B.S. in Information Systems and Supply Chain Management and an M.S. in IT and Management. The Intern Group’s unique and enriching program includes a professional, virtual internship in my primary career field (IT Computer Science/ Software Tester), training focused on developing the eight key competencies essential to succeed in 21st-century work, and career talks from global business leaders. The networking opportunities, mentorships, and new skills will be as valuable as the internship. My internship gives me experience in the career field I want to pursue; it also gives me an edge over other candidates when applying for jobs, prepares me for what to expect in my area, and increases confidence in my work.” -Shirin Alhroob (The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 2022)Shirin Alhroob
“The opportunities and knowledge provided by having an internship through The Intern Group are unequaled to any alternative internship option available for students. They focus on developing students by working and supporting you through your internship, rather than just providing a job opportunity. After interviewing with interested companies that matched my career goals and aspirations, I found my right match with WageIndicator Foundation, an international labor transparency research institution. Through my internship, I helped supply news production for America and Canada as well as worked on important data collection as it pertains to the differentiating cost of living worldwide. I felt supported by the team at both WageIndicator Foundation and The Intern Group. I am very grateful to have received the scholarship to be able to have the summer intern experience I participated in. I encourage all student members of Omicron Delta Kappa to consider what opportunities could be available for them through the Society.” -Angelique Mevorah, (St. John’s University, 2021) | The Intern Group Scholarship RecipientAngelique Mevorah
