The Cheryl M. Hogle Distinguished Service Award honors a member of the Society who has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to OΔK, as demonstrated through outstanding service. The award was named for former National President Cheryl M. Hogle in 2008.
Hogle, along with Eldridge W. Roark, Jr., were the two key leaders behind the establishment of the circle at SUNY Plattsburgh. She was initiated as a faculty/staff member when the circle was chartered in 1981.
Hogle, a long-time student affairs administrator at SUNY Plattsburgh, held numerous roles within Omicron Delta Kappa’s national leadership. She was vice president for extension, a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees, and a member of the Scholarship Review and Selection Committee. Notably, Hogle was the first woman to serve as national president of Omicron Delta Kappa, a position she held from 1998-2002. Forty-four circles were chartered during her service as national vice president for extension. She championed a more efficient governance structure for Omicron Delta Kappa, and she touched generations of students in her roles in student affairs at SUNY Plattsburgh. Hogle was also a long-time advisor for the SUNY Plattsburgh Circle and was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Key in 2008.
Up to four awards are presented each year, often in conjunction with the National Leadership Conference. National officers are not eligible to receive this award until they have completed their terms. The individual must not be a current student and should have served the Society over a period of time. Serving in several capacities such as circle advisor, former province chair, national committee work, regional or national convention or conference committees, writing for The Circle, working with extension, or serving on the Board of Directors or Board of Trustees. In general, the individual should have served the Society in significant ways.
