O∆K’s 16th National Day of Service is on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Many individuals and circles participate in service on their campuses and in their communities throughout the year. You can share how you or your circle is providing service to others by submitting a report here. Here are some examples of leaders giving back in their communities:
Silas Kelly (Adelphi University, 2013) has volunteered with the Zion Gospel Food Pantry for over 15 years. Silas serves the pantry by picking up and delivering food to veterans and their families in the community.
Lauren Volz (University of Kentucky, 2024) volunteered at the Lebanon County Christian Ministries Market. The Market assists individuals struggling with food insecurity. They can select food at the market every 14 days, and the amount of food they can take depends on their household size. Lauren assisted individuals with selecting food and taking it to their vehicles.
Tremona Morrison-Pittman (University of North Carolina at Pembroke, 2023) volunteered along with other military veterans and members of the Charlotte Hornets, helping to pack snack bags and toiletry kits and writing notes of appreciation for military personnel who visit the USO at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The Western Kentucky University Circle hosted a “Tri-Philanthropy” week to promote mental health awareness, in partnership with Rho Lambda National Leadership Sorority and Order of Omega. The WKU Circle held events to write letters to the environmental service workers on their campus, thanking them for keeping the campus clean. The circle also hosted a guest speaker to speak to the importance of mental health, and held a pickleball tournament as a fundraiser.
Dylan Snow (Washington College, 2022) is serving with AmeriCorps NCCC, a 10-month commitment working to strengthen communities across the US through service learning. Dylan has served with the Emergency Food Bank in Stockton, CA, Sabin Community Development Corporation, and Habitat for Humanity in Portland, OR this year.
