Candidate Statement

As a previous three year member of the National Advisory Council and as someone who has served in a multitude of leadership roles within the society, I desire to continue to serve Omicron Delta Kappa on a national level by seeking one of the Faculty/Staff Trustee positions. I have a passion for Omicron Delta Kappa and the principles upon which we were founded and feel that my years of service will enhance the mission and vision of the society.

Engagement at the Circle Level

I have served at the circle level in a variety of capacities. At the University of Miami, I served for nine years as the Circle Coordinator; at Austin Peay State University I have served for the last 12 years as both the Circle Faculty Advisor and Circle Coordinator. Additionally, while residing in Florida, I served as the Province VIII Director for the State of Florida for four years. Lastly, as an undergraduate student I was my Circle President at the University of Memphis.

Leadership Philosophy

I have always believed that we have a responsibility to give back to others and to organizations that have had a tremendous influence on our life. It is our responsibility to inspire others as we have been inspired; to assist others in developing a shared vision; to work towards a common goal, and certainly to always “model the way” for others whether working with undergraduate or graduate members or with our volunteers.

I believe that leadership is both a combination of collaboration and teamwork. Working with others to achieve success is paramount to moving any organization forward. I also support the concept that in order to be truly successful one must have an undying passion for their principles. They must be accountable for their actions, communicative in working with others, ethical in their decisions, and open to others ideas, beliefs, and values.

I believe that your character is reflective on how you treat others; that in order to be an effective leader you must possess the qualities of being a good listener, someone that leads by example, and strives for excellence in every endeavor.

Purpose for Running

I have one primary purpose for running: to give back to an organization that has assisted me in a variety of leadership roles throughout both my undergraduate experiences and in my professional career. As a servant leader, I have served Omicron Delta Kappa in a variety of capacities for almost 37 years since I was initiated through the University of Memphis Circle in 1983. I strongly believe that I can enhance the mission and vision of Omicron Delta Kappa through my years of experience as a higher education administrator and as someone who has been a longtime volunteer for the society in a multitude of roles. With my experiences in both higher education and having served as both a conference chairman and national president of a higher education association, I can add valuable insight into the vision we collectively have for our society.

Goals for the Society

If I am selected to serve on the Board of Trustees for Omicron Delta Kappa, I pledge myself to support the long range plan of the society and to enhance the volunteer structure by encouraging others to continue to give of their time and talents to enhance the vision that has already been developed. The ten (10) strategic priorities that were developed in the past are outstanding. Omicron Delta Kappa needs volunteers that will embrace those priorities and make sure that as society members we are “Leading for Our Second Century”. I realize that in order to progress as a society we must embrace change. New and innovative ideas must be examined and members of the Board of Trustees must always do what’s in the best interest for the Society. If selected, I pledge to be that volunteer that continues to “lead by example”, “challenge the process”, and “strive for excellence” in every endeavor.
