To welcome each member into Omicron Delta Kappa, and to present each individual with the emblems of membership, circles hold initiation ceremonies. The Society’s initiation ritual is an open activity. You may find the Initiation and Ritual Handbook at this link.
New members learn about the history and symbols of O∆K, the meaning of those Greek letters, and the leadership values embraced by all members (collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship, and service). Circles often provide information about the history of the Society’s presence on a particular campus. Initiates are provided with a pin (the Key of Membership) and a certificate identifying individuals as members of Omicron Delta Kappa.
During the academic years impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, some circles have held these programs virtually. In-person ceremonies are also allowed and encouraged according to the safety protocols as established by each institution.
