The 48th Biennial Convention and Centennial Celebration of Omicron Delta Kappa will convene in 50 days. The national headquarters staff is busily preparing for the arrival of the delegates as well as other students, faculty officers and alumni members. Each day, we have the joy of opening boxes of materials that contain items that will be shared with the convention participants. Our Tumblr account is helping us keep track of the countdown and showcases what convention attendees might see when they join us in Lexington, Va.
We are also working on the final details with the major speakers and the concurrent program presenters so that their sessions will go smoothly. Registrations are coming in on a daily basis, and we are expecting very good representation from our 284 active ircles.
Today that number is still 284. Congratulations to the three circles that were already chartered this year:
Miami University (re-charter)
February 23
Cabrini College
April 6
The College of New Jersey
April 23
It was my pleasure to serve as the chartering official at The College of New Jersey earlier this week. National Treasurer Darwin Jones did the honors at Cabrini, and National Vice President Michelle Burke led the ceremony at Miami University. In addition to attending the chartering ceremony earlier this week, I also had the opportunity to participate in the student leadership awards program at TCNJ. It was great to learn about the tremendously innovative service, diversity, and sustainability programs developed by students at the college and to see a number of OΔK ’s newest members receive other honors.
In the next week, three more circles will be installed: Lake Forest College (April 27), The College at Brockport (May 1) and Martin Methodist College (May 2). I will be joined at Lake Forest by National Student Vice President Steven Binninger. National President Michael Christakis will be the installing officer at The College at Brockport, and National Advisory Council member Matthew Hibdon will be with the leadership at Martin Methodist.
We look forward to hosting the representatives of these 2014 circles on the campus of the original 1914 circle – Washington and Lee University – and from all campuses that have played a part in OΔK ’s first 100 years. Remember: Early registration closes on May 1. Please come join us to reflect on our history, celebrate the present and explore our future.
