Planned Giving

Thank you for your interest in learning more about the benefits of planned giving — for you, for your family, and for Omicron Delta Kappa.

There are several different types of planned gifts that individuals may make to support Omicron Delta Kappa.

A simple way of supporting OΔK in the future is by designating our organization as a beneficiary in your will. If you have already made a will, it’s easy to add a binding will codicil without redrafting the original will.

Many people don’t realize that both new and existing life insurance policies can be donated to nonprofits. When you donate one, you may qualify for a charitable deduction on the premiums of a new policy or the cash value of one you already own. To qualify, you must designate OΔK as both the owner and the beneficiary. Ask your financial planner for guidance.

A charitable gift annuity (CGA) is a planned giving vehicle through which an individual may enhance their secure income, save on taxes, and support Omicron Delta Kappa. Our Society partners with the National Gift Annuity Foundation in coordinating the establishment of CGAs.

Lastly, gifts from retirement assets may be designated to support the work of Omicron Delta Kappa. A charitable IRA rollover is a gift option that enables donors age 70 1/2 or older to transfer up to $100,000 directly from the donor’s IRA (or IRAs) to a qualified charity each year. The donor does not recognize the transfer as taxable income on his or her tax return. Your organization’s benefits advisor or your financial planner can provide additional information.

Planned giving is as easy as (1) making a charitable gift and (2) saving taxes. We’d like to make it even easier with this introduction to some of the best ways to give — and save. We hope that this information will be helpful to you and your attorney, accountant, or other professional advisors. If you have further questions, please give us a call or use our contact form.

Members who include Omicron Delta Kappa in their estate plans become members of the Heritage Society.

Thank you for your interest and support of Omicron Delta Kappa.

About the Organization

The Omicron Delta Kappa Society and Educational Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees and is a 501(c)3 organization. The bylaws are located on the About tab under Governance.

The most recent audit of the Omicron Delta Kappa Foundation, Inc. and the IRS Form 990 tax return can be found at guidestar.org.

Unrestricted Gifts
When you give an unrestricted gift to OΔK, we spend your money on the Society’s most pressing needs. The trustees of Omicron Delta Kappa determine their use, typically for general scholarships, leadership programs, and circle support. Unrestricted gifts can go a long way toward providing more freedom for us to focus on introducing new initiatives and programs that will help propel OΔK forward. Unless donors indicate that a gift is restricted, all gifts to OΔK are considered unrestricted.

Restricted Gifts
Restricted gifts indicate how you would like to see your dollars used. You may wish to underwrite a scholarship, a leadership development program, or to fund a guest speaker. These are all examples of restricted gifts. The donor has clear intentions for how his or her money should be spent and OΔK honors those wishes.
