I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mike James to the National Advisory Council.
In January 2015, Mike began a new role as the dean of the Honors College at Harding University. For the previous five years, he served as the director of the university’s campus in Porto Rafti, Greece. For this semester-abroad program for Harding, he planned and executed the academics, activities and travel for students as they visited Greece, Israel, Egypt and Turkey.
Mike has a strong background in communication. He received a Ph.D. in Interactive Communication from Florida State University. He previously served Harding as chair of the Department of Communication and later as dean of the College of Communication. He was awarded the university’s Distinguished Teacher Award three times, and he now has the academic status of Distinguished Professor of Communication.
Mike organized the Harding Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa in 1995. He served as the Faculty Secretary and attended semi-annual national ODK conventions until his overseas departure. He also worked in several regional and national roles. He served on the National Standards Committee from 2005-10, the Council of Regional Directors and coordinated the Ft. Worth conference for Region V in 2007. In 2008, he was awarded the Eldridge W. Roark Meritorious Service Award.
In addition to Omicron Delta Kappa, Mike’s memberships include National Collegiate Honors Council, Kappa Tau Alpha, Alpha Phi Gamma and the Broadcast Education Association.
I’m excited to welcome Mike back to national service as we move our Society forward in our second century!
