For Destiny Robinson (Xavier University of Louisiana, 2024), leadership has always been more than a title—it’s a calling. From overcoming early challenges with courage and faith to building an eight-year legacy of service, Destiny has turned every stage of her journey into an opportunity to inspire others.
Her leadership path began in high school, where she excelled academically, sang with the KIPP Renaissance Legacy Chorale, and earned recognition for her ability to uplift others. At Xavier University of Louisiana, Destiny deepened her voice as a leader—both literally and figuratively—serving as Chief Editor of New Voices, the university’s literary journal, and publishing poetry that honored culture, resilience, and equality. Her words, such as in Honoring Our Ancestors and Why Does Our Beauty Matter?, have become both art and ministry.
In 2024, Destiny was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, an honor she calls a confirmation of the purpose God placed in her life. Now a senior sociology major at the University of New Orleans, she continues to grow her leadership legacy through O∆K, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, and UNO’s Privateer Passage program, where she has earned multiple leadership development badges. In recognition of her impact, she received the Silent Student Inspiration Award in 2025.
Outside of academics, Destiny lives out her leadership through service and faith. At Resurrection Missionary Baptist Church, she is a youth trustee, counselor, and choir member—mentoring younger generations while also volunteering through the church’s feeding ministry and community projects.
For Destiny, leadership is not about recognition but about obedience to purpose. “My journey is proof that with God, all things are possible,” she says. “Leadership is about serving others with humility and honoring those who came before us.”
We invite you to read Destiny’s leadership story in her own words:
“I am Destiny Robinson—a first-generation college student and independent leader at UNO. My journey to UNO during the Spring 2025 semester was not just a transfer; it was a divine transition into the next chapter of a leadership legacy God began in me back in 2017. For the past 8 years, God blessed me with an 8-year leadership legacy in which I have served, inspired, and uplifted others—not for recognition, but because I was called to do so. At UNO, that calling deepened. I’ve been able to grow as a leader through the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, through Privateer Passage, and through my continued membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.”
